DELTONA, Fla. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after aDeltona city commissioner found a voodoo doll with her picture on
it in her yard.
The doll resembling Commissioner Zenaida Denizac had several
pins stuck in it. A Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman says it's
too early to say if this is a hate crime, but deputies don't
believe it was a direct threat. The doll was found by Denizac's
husband by their mailbox on Saturday.
Denizac told deputies she had received several anonymous letters
critical of her work as a city commissioner and with the Volusia
County Hispanic Association. The letters, which did not contain
violent threats, were turned over to authorities.
