WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Secret Service is checking into a security breach during this week's White House state dinner. That's after a Virginia couple slipped into the private event Tuesday and bragged about it online. The two have posted photos showing the couple posing with Vice President Joe Biden, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, and CBS News anchor Katie Couric, among others.
An attorney who knows the couple says Michaele and Tareq Salahi have done nothing wrong. He says they are "good people" who enjoy "a good party."
A Secret Service spokesman says President Barack Obama wasn't in any danger. He says the Salahis went through the same security screening for weapons as the 300-plus people actually invited to the dinner honoring India's prime minister.
But he acknowledges that officers at a checkpoint for the event did not follow proper procedures.
