FORT LEWIS, Wash. (AP) - Authorities have questioned a soldier at Fort Lewis in Washington state after a 16-year-old girl was found dead in a barracks.

Another teenage girl was discovered unconscious. She's reported in stable condition.

Emergency personnel on the base responded to a 911 call early Sunday morning. The base issued a statement about the death about 36 hours later.

The Army is investigating what the girls were doing in the barracks and whether drugs or alcohol were involved. A Fort Lewis spokesman says results of an autopsy on the dead girl might not be available for a week.

The spokesman says the soldier who has been questioned is "allegedly acquainted with the two girls." No arrests have been made.

i think IF guilty and IF being the key word.i would rather wait and see the outcome. something happened thats for sure, but i want to hear more about it, before i go judging. IF they are found guilty of anything they should be punished. but i do believe even the military should be given the same rights as those they risk their lives to protect.

Thanks. Everytime a negative story about the military comes out in the news, or something happens that places the services in a bad light, the majority of the enlisted and commisioned personnel get upset with the person that caused the incident. A great deal of the people that serve our country are hard working, honest law abiding citizens and we really do care about the way we look to the public, then there are some that just dont get it, they dont realize they represent our nation, and all the ones that served before them. To have something like this happen is inexcusable, I hope, if guilty, these fellas get the maximum punishment available.

Kx to make the assumption that all Army guys are binge drinkers is b.s. I am retired military and I know a lot of military people that do not drink, including myself. A statement like that is not necessary, coming from a person that has already stated on this board they wouldn’t enlist. So dont sit in your comfy chair, and feel the freedom you have is given to you by a bunch of drunks. An apology to the military would be inorder this time.

hollyb, if the military is so good how come this arrest and conviction was made?http://www.strykernews.com/archives/2005/07/15/soldier_charged_with_murder.html How come anyone I’ve ever seen commit a crime in the military is swiftly punished? Even in the public eye? Where are you getting YOUR information?? Sounds a little sketchy to me.
This death was a little too close to home for me, as her high school is 3 blocks away from where I live, she was found in barracks I USED to live in, and also found where I work.
