WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush says the economy is weakening
but he hopes tax rebates that start going out Monday will help
shore things up.
Bush says the rebates also will help people cope with higher gas
and food prices.
The rebates range from $300 to $1,200 and are the centerpiece of
the government's $168 billion economic stimulus package, enacted in
February. Roughly 130 million households are expected to get them.
The Bush administration is hoping that people will spend the money,
helping to bolster the economy.
Bush said, "Obviously our economy is in a slowdown."
The IRS says the first direct deposits of rebates will begin
Monday, with paper checks to follow starting next month.

Amen on the need for more domestic oil production in the states, but always be suspicious of anything a politician dose on his way out of office when he didn’t do it in his previous three quarters of his term.

Or from a more rational standpoint, maybee he is trying to give us a little relief. Since the dems won’t let us drill for our own oil.

You don’t think he would give us some of our own money back just in time for us to continue paying record high prices for gasoline just for some of his friends in the oil business do you? NAWW! He wouldn’t do that,——or would he??
