MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) - Authorities in Australia havecharged a man with lighting one of the deadly wildfires that
ravaged southeastern Victoria state.
The suspect is charged with two arson counts, and with
possession of child pornography. A police official says the man is
in protective custody and his name is being withheld for his own
safety.
The man is suspected of lighting a wildfire near the town of
Churchill. Officials say 21 people were killed in the blaze.
Australian Broadcasting Corp. reports he's been ordered to undergo
psychiatric evaluation.
Anger is growing throughout Australia with the news that some of
the fires that resulted in more than 180 deaths appear to have been
deliberately set.
