SUPREME COURT (AP) - Today is the final day of this session of
the U.S. Supreme Court, and the justices should be issuing a long
awaited ruling on guns.
At issue is whether the District of Columbia's 32-year ban on
handguns violates a person's constitutional right to bear arms. One
side argues that the Constitution protects an individual's right to
own guns but the other says the wording ties it to service in a
state militia.
During oral arguments several months ago, the justices appeared
to back the view that the Second Amendment does allow individual
ownership. But even if they decide an individual right does exist,
the justices would still have to decide if the District's ban
violates that right.
The amendment was ratified in 1791, but the high court has never
issued a ruling on precisely what it means.

well I see the Supreme Court ruled Washington d.c’s law of owning a hand gun in their district illegal was unlawful. That’s great news and one more right that’s safe for a while. I’m all for having a weapon at home and in the vehicle if traveling a lot at night. But there is a bunch out there that shouldn’t be allowed to wear a gun in public because of their short tempers and if they start slinging lead out in a crowd of people ? That’s a potential disaster for everyone around!

I dont think toting around a handgun in public is a good idea anyway. If you shoot someone out in public regardless of the situation you are most likley going to have some kind of law slap you in the face. If you must have a gun on you in public you are propably in a place you dont need to be anyway.  However having a gun at home or work to protect yourself on your own property is fine. I could not sleep at night if I didnt have a gun in reach at all times. We just have too many kookoo clocks out there now that think home invasion is an easy way to get payed. My gun will re-define the word “payed” if someone invades my home or business.

That reminds me of the time years back when I was working and one of my friends was an avid shooter and collector of guns. He had just started loading his own ammo. He came out to the range to practice with a big revolver he had and to use his ammo he had loaded. He took his first shot and it sounded weak, like he didn’t put enough powder in the shell. he was standing there looking down range to see where he hit and a little boy with his father pulled on his sleeve and said “MISTER”. he continued to look down range until the little boy said again “MISTER”, he looked at the boy a little annoyed and said YES. The little boy said “mister your bullets are falling out”. he looked down by his foot and there lay 3 or 4 projectiles from his shells laying by his foot. He picked up his bullets and left red faced. he hadn’t crimped them right or something. I still get a good chuckle about that. grin

I’ve gone shooting several times, but I don’t want to own a gun, because I know I could never bring myself pull the trigger at take a life, so I’d end up getting killed with my own darn gun anyway.

I have a permit and carry mine all the time.  With all the crazy people out there I feel that I should have it in case I am in a situation where I can do something to help someone or prevent something bad from happening. If more people carried guns maybe the people like the Carr brothers would think twice about robbing someone if they thought they would wind up dead.

Oh ok. I didn’t really think of that. Being from the South...I think everybody that owns a gun either keeps it on them or in their truck, and I knew you couldn’t do that in alot of places.

Carrying one and having the right to own one is two far different things. I’m not quite sure what the law is in D.C. . But I think they said illegal to own a hand gun. I’m not quite comfortable with the thought of every one walking around carrying a hand gun but I think it’s a right to own one that needs defending.

I thought you couldn’t carry a gun in most large cities anyway.

GO ahead Supreme Court and shoot down another right and freedom the American citizen has!
