HONOLULU (AP) - The Federal Aviation Administration is
investigating whether pilots flying a go! airline plane took a nap
in the cockpit.
The airliner overshot Hawaii's Hilo International airport by 15
miles last week, and the FAA says it's trying to figure out if the
pilot and co-pilot were sleeping. The airline says it's cooperating
with the FAA.
The flight between Honolulu and Hilo drifted off course and had
to turn back to get back to the airport. It landed safely.
A local TV station reports air traffic controllers weren't able
to contact the cockpit for 25 minutes.
If the pilots did nod off while the plane was on autopilot, the
FAA has penalties ranging from a warning letter to license
revocation.
