RIDGECREST, Calif. (AP) - Are there undiscovered graves atCharles Manson's last hideout? Investigators hope work scheduled to
begin today will answer that question once and for all.
The dig at the secluded ranch in the Southern California desert
will be led by the Inyo County Sheriff's Department with help from
specialists in detecting the disturbed soils and chemical markers
that indicate a likely grave site.
The searchers will use technology that wasn't available when
Manson and his followers were arrested after the 1969 murders of
actress Sharon Tate and six others.
There have long been rumors about other possible Manson victims
-- hitchhikers who visited them at the ranch and were not seen
again, or runaways who drifted into the camp.
The decision to dig comes after initial tests at the site in
February.
