ALAMOSA, Colo. (AP) - The number of suspected salmonella cases
linked to an outbreak in Alamosa, Colorado, has now topped 200.
Of 216 reported cases so far, 68 have been confirmed by lab
results. A spokesman for Jefferson County says nine people have
been hospitalized, but that it's believed all but one have been
released.
Health officials believe the municipal water system is the
source of the problem; the plan is start flushing it with a
chlorine solution beginning Tuesday.
State health and emergency officials have worked with dozens of
companies to provide residents with bottled water, but they're
hoping to save most of the bottles for schools. Residents are being
told to bring large containers to distribution centers around town
to be filled with safe water.
