ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - An animal rights group wants the PGA Tour
to take action against a player accused of killing a hawk with a
golf shot.
Tripp Isenhour got angry at the bird because it was squawking
while he was being filmed for a TV show. A report by the Florida
Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says the 39-year-old
started hitting balls at the hawk. Witnesses say he finally hit the
bird, which fell to the ground bleeding from both nostrils.
Humane Society of the United States official Dale Bartlett says
the PGA needs to make it clear they don't condone animal cruelty.
Isenhour was charged earlier this week with cruelty to animals
and killing a migratory bird. If convicted, the misdemeanors carry
a maximum penalty of 14 months in jail and a $1,500 fine.
