TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida is finally saying it's sorry toAlan Crotzer. After spending 24 years, 6 months, 13 days and four
hours in prison for a crime he didn't commit, Crotzer will get
$1.25 million or about $137 for each day, from the state.
The Senate overwhelmingly passed a compensation bill Thursday
and sent it to Gov. Charlie Crist, who has said he supports the
legislation.
Crotzer watched from the gallery as the Senate passed the bill.
Afterward, with tears streaming down his face, Crotzer said it
showed "justice can prevail."
The measure passed 33-5. It had passed the House earlier.
Crotzer was freed in 2006 after DNA proved he didn't commit the
rapes and a home invasion robbery he was convicted of.
