New York City officials held a press conference after the second fatal crane collapse in New York City in four months.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said he did not know why the top of a ‘tower’ crane snapped off killing one worker and injuring two others. Speaking at to a press conference Friday (06/30) morning, Bloomberg described the accident as ‘unacceptable and wrong.’ He continued by saying, it appeared the Department of Buildings followed regulations.

Governor Paterson said he would ask the Department of Labor and Housing to investigate the accident. He continued by saying these kind of accidents happened too often.

A construction crane crashed to the ground on 91st and First Avenue (335 East 91st) in New York City, killing a construction worker and seriously injuring two others. The crane smashed into a building opposite causing extensive damage (354 East 91st).
