bail, accused of beating a New York man he thought was a Yankees
fan.
But it turns out that the victim, identified in at least one
published report as William Nestor of Northport, New York, isn't
even a big baseball fan.
It happened Saturday night after fireworks in the town of
Falmouth, Massachusetts. Authorities accused 20-year-old Robert
Correia of being part of a group that started yelling at a car with
New York license plates stuck in traffic.
A police report says Correia struck Nestor three times with an
aluminum baseball bat after Nestor had confronted the group.
But Correia's attorney claims his client was trying to defend
himself after Nestor "came at him," and says Correia only struck
his alleged victim once.
Correia will remain behind bars until a hearing scheduled on
Wednesday.
