BEIJING (AP) - China's top family planning official says the
country won't consider changing its one-child policy for at least
another decade.
He's quoted in the China Daily Newspaper as saying there would
be major fluctuations in population growth if the rule were
abandoned now. And he says that would cause serious problems and
add extra pressure on social and economic development.
The official says any change in the policy would only be
considered after the end of China's next birth peak in 10 years.
Over the next decade, nearly 200 million people will enter
child-bearing years.
The policy, launched during the 70s, has prevented an additional
400 million births. China's population currently stands at 1.3
billion, growing 16 to 17 million annually.
Critics say the policy has led to forced abortions,
sterilizations and a dangerously imbalanced sex ratio due to a
traditional preference for male heirs.

well the long and short of it is, what they are doing is working.  The bottom dwellers in America spit out childrens so they will get a check.  So China says this is not happening here.  Hooray for them.  They are trying to get the population down.  If they have one child they will take good care of him/her is America the norm is spit out a child, get a check.  Why do you think these little hoodies are running the streets and doing drive bys.

The point is, what are they supposed to do? Look at their economic situation—look at their social situation, they really have no other choice. The country is over-populated as it is. Instad of talking about how wrong it is… try to come up with a better solution.

They choose to be on welfare though, they could get out and get a job!

That’s a good thing, the US needs that and then there wouldn’t be so many on WELFARE!

That is so sad!! They should not be able to have just one child, they should be able to have as many as they want! That is just wrong! I feel bad for the Chinese people
