FRONT ROYAL, Va. (AP) - Details are emerging about an incident in Virginia last weekend in which police shot and killed a soldierwho was dressed and wearing face-paint like the Batman villain The Joker.
An FBI affidavit says Army Spc. Christopher Lanum was shot in the Shenandoah National Park after he pointed a loaded shotgun at police following a chase.
Lanum was a suspect in the stabbing of a fellow soldier at Fort Eustis. He was killed hours after the attack when officers
attempted to stop the minivan he was driving.
Lanum's girlfriend, a passenger in the van, was hit by gunfire and treated at a hospital. Authorities say she was arrested Wednesday evening and charged with being an accessory after the fact to assault.
According to court documents, Lanum's girlfriend told the FBI that Lanum idolized the Joker character.
