LOS ANGELES (AP) - Universal Studios is still tallying the costs
of the accidental fire on Sunday morning that ripped through its
back lot -- and the total could be in the tens of millions.
The biggest casualty: the New York streetscape set that was a
favorite for both film and television production companies.
A Universal spokeswoman says the blaze covered close to five
acres of sets and buildings. Some people expect the damage to total
more than the 25 million dollars from a similar fire in 1990.
The studio also lost its popular King Kong attraction, an
unknown number of film and music recordings and a full day's
revenue when it didn't open the park Sunday.
