today's SEC championship game between the fifth-ranked Tigers and
Number-14 Tennessee in Atlanta.
Head coach Les Miles says he's staying in Baton Rouge to
continue running a program that's 32-6 in his three seasons at the
helm. Miles said an erroneous ESPN report that he was going to
Michigan prompted him to speak to his players and the media.
Tigers athletic director Skip Bertman says Miles and school
chancellor Sean O'Keefe already have worked out a contract that
hasn't been signed.
Michigan officials had asked for and received permission from
LSU to meet with Miles about the Wolverines' head football coaching
vacancy. But Bertman asked the Wolverines to wait until after
today's game before starting negotiations.
Michigan has been seeking a coach since Lloyd Carr stepped down
last month. Miles played at Michigan and was on the coaching staff
in Ann Arbor, where he met his wife.
The Tigers are 10-and-2 after going 11-and-2 in each of Miles'
first two seasons with the team.
