LOS ANGELES (AP) - A former hospital employee has been indictedon charges she accessed the medical records of dozens of
high-profile patients and sold information to the media.
Lawanda Jackson is accused of receiving at least $4,600 from an
unidentified media outlet in exchange for the records. The
indictment says the outlet wrote checks to her husband.
The indictment comes after news that private records of dozens
of high-profile patients at UCLA Medical Center had been breached.
They included Farrah Fawcett, Britney Spears and California first
lady Maria Shriver. The indictment doesn't actually name any
celebrities.
Jackson quit last year after learning she was going to be fired.
Jackson told the Los Angeles Times this month she was just
"being nosy" when she peeked the records and denied selling any
information.
