MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Republican presidential candidate JohnMcCain campaigns in Alabama today. He'll visit heavily Democratic
west Alabama, kicking off his national "Time for Action Tour,"
but he will end up in Birmingham, where Republicans traditionally
go to raise money in Alabama.
McCain's tour begins in a sparsely populated, majority black
part of the state not normally visited by Republican presidential
candidates due to the area's overwhelming dominance by Democrats.
Campaign spokesman Jeff Sadosky says the purpose of the weeklong
"Time for Action Tour" is to visit troubled areas that other
candidates bypass.
Once in the areas, Sadosky says McCain wants to hear what the
government can do to help and where the government needs to get out
of the way.
