TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - After spending more than two decades incaptivity in Florida, a manatee named Hurriacane is making the open
water his new home.
Wildlife officials took Hurricane from the Lowry Park Zoo this
morning to Blue Spring State Park near the state's east coast where
the sea cow was released.
Veterinarian David Murphy says Hurricane will be tagged with a
satellite tracking device and checked to make sure he's feeding.
Hurricane was born at the Miami Seaquarium in 1983. He was later
transferred to the Tampa zoo.
Murphy says it will take a few days to a week before Hurricane
is used to his new surroundings.
