A former New York City doorman was awarded $6 million from the city after he slipped on pigeon poop and fell down the stairs at a subway station.
56-year-old Shelton Stewart slipped on the station steps in 1998. He suffered two broken bones in his neck, one broken bone in his back, herniated disks and a bruised spinal cord.
Stewart's lawyer lawyer argued the transit authority knew the station was infested with pigeons, but did nothing about it "The (transit authority) was doing absolutely nothing to get rid of the pigeons," Robert Genis said.
Stewart, who spent five years re-learning routine activities like how to stand, walk, dress himself, said he will use the money to buy a house and take his two daughters and grandchild to Disney World.
The city says it will appeal.

The city should appeal. This is ridiculous. I feel sorry for Mr. Stewart,
but this is just too much. This means that the Transit Authority will have $6 millon less to work with to get the pigeon problem taken care of. But, the real heartbreaking thing is that Mr. Stewart will only get a small part of this. The lawyers will make out like bandits.
The Transit Authority should fire the manager that didn’t handle this in the first place and get someone who can handle it. I’m not talking about the peon on the bottom, but the top manager in the area. I hope a judge that has common sense will hear this case and get justice done, and not just make the lawyers rich.
