needed house cleaning for one California man.
Ari Derfel has saved every piece of trash he has generated over
the past year to see how much garbage one person creates.
The 35-year-old Berkeley caterer says he started the experiment
to examine his own trashy habits, but it evolved into a statement
about consumerism and the environment.
He composts his food scraps, but the rest of his trash is
sitting in bins in his apartment. That includes tissues, food
wrappers, plastic bottles and receipts and amounts to a
96-cubic-foot heap of trash.
Derfel hopes it can eventually be turned into a work of art.
