Surveillance cameras captured a brutal hit-and-run incident. A man on a bicycle at a gas station in Washington Park, Illinois was run over by a minivan and then dragged about 40 feet as the driver kept going. Amazingly, the victim survived the ordeal and is able to talk about it.
The incident happened last Monday and police are still looking for the person responsible. They hope the videotape will generate a tip or that the driver will turn himself in.
Twenty-two-year-old Anthony Jackson says he was watching the bike for a relative who went into the Crown Food Mart. The rest he can't remember.
The video shows a man getting into the gray van after pumping gas, backing up and then going forward, running over Jackson. In slow motion, you can actually see Jackson's body going underneath the van. The bike is left behind as he is dragged by the vehicle. The driver just keeps on going.
Jackson suffered several broken bones, bleeding on the brain, a punctured lung and scrapes and bruises over much of his body. He has months of recovery ahead, but feels thankful to have survived.
Police say a female passenger was also in the van.
