KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Frank Buckles says he had a feeling he'dsurvive World War I. What he could not have known at the time was
that he'd be the last known American-born veteran to survive.
The 107-year-old was honored Sunday at the Liberty Memorial in
Kansas City, Missouri, with the unveiling of his portrait.
His photograph was hung in the main hallway of the National
World War I Museum, which he toured for the first time Sunday. Also,
the Veterans of Foreign Wars presented him with a gold medal of
merit.
Today, Buckles will be presented the American flag flying outside the memorial.
And federal officials have arranged for the Missouri native and
West Virginia resident to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
