LOS ANGELES (AP) - A house where a man has barricaded himself in
an hours-long standoff with police is now on fire.
Flames and smoke could be seen coming out of windows and several
sides of the San Fernando Valley home. Firefighters have sprayed
the house with water, but didn't go inside.
It's unclear how the blaze started, but police had thrown tear
gas into the home earlier this morning.
A shootout at the scene has left one SWAT officer dead and
another seriously wounded.
The conflict began last night after the man called police and
told them he had killed three members of his family. Authorities
say the SWAT team entered the home after midnight.
At least 200 officers have surrounded the house and several
blocks have been sealed off.
