CAPITOL HILL (AP) - Congress is asking the Justice Department toinvestigate whether Roger Clemens made false statements to a House
committee.
The Democratic chairman and ranking Republican on the House
Oversight and Government Reform Committee say they've sent a letter
to Justice. In it, Representatives Henry Waxman and Tom Davis say
they believe that testimony by Clemens in a sworn deposition on
February 5th and at a hearing on February 13th, warrants further
investigation.
Clemens said he never used anabolic steroids or human growth
hormone.
The lawmakers say that testimony is directly contradicted by
that of Brian McNamee, who told the committee that he personally
injected the star pitcher with anabolic steroids and human growth
hormone.
They also say that Clemens is contradicted by the sworn
deposition testimony and affidavit submitted to the committee by
former teammate Andy Pettitte. His testimony and affidavit reported
that Clemens admitted to him in 1999 or 2000 that he had taken
human growth hormone.
