JERUSALEM (AP) - Jews in Israel and around the world celebrate
the beginning of the year 5769 on the Jewish calendar starting at
sundown this evening.
Rosh Hashanah, the two-day Jewish New Year
celebration, also marks the beginning of Judaism's High Holy Days.
The ten-day period of repentance culminates in Yom Kippur, the
Day of Atonement.
The Israeli military says it's imposing a closure on the West
Bank and Gaza Strip to coincide with the Jewish New Year holiday.
Palestinians are banned from entering Israel until the closure is
lifted.
Such closures during Jewish holidays are explained as necessary
to prevent Palestinian attacks.

*sings*
I was dreamin’ when I wrote this
Forgive me if it goes astray
But when I woke up this mornin’
Coulda sworn it was judgment day
The sky was all purple
There were people runnin’ everywhere
Tryin’ 2 run from the destruction
U know I didn’t even care
‘Cuz they say fifty seven seventy party over
Oops out of time
So tonight I’m gonna party like it’s 5769!!!
