NEW YORK (AP) - We shred financial papers, why not bad memories?
That's the thinking behind an event in New York City that
organizers hope will become a tradition. New Yorkers and others
brought their bad memories for the year to Times Square yesterday
to stick into an industrial-strength shredder. It's called "Good
Riddance Day."
One woman shredded a break-up e-mail from her boyfriend. Another
woman -- a loyal Yankees' fan -- shredded a Boston Red Sox poster.
Others shredded pieces of paper that read "stock market" and
"cancer."
But the $250 prize for the most creative object shredded went to
a man who tossed in a sock. It represented all the socks that
emerge from the laundry without their mates.
