LOS ANGELES (AP) - We saw Beyonce play Etta James. We probably
won't soon see the singing divas duet.
The 71-year-old singer says in an audio clip that surfaced
online Thursday that she would "whip" Beyonce for singing "her
song" "At Last" at an inaugural ball for President Barack Obama.
"The great Beyonce ... I can't stand Beyonce," James said in
the clip from a Jan. 31 concert at the Boulevard Casino in
Coquitlam, British Columbia. "She has no business up there,
singing up there on a big ol' president day, gonna be singing my
song that I've been singing forever."
Beyonce portrayed James - and sang the 1941 song written by Mack
Gordon and Harry Warren - in the film "Cadillac Records" last
year.
Spokespeople for James and Beyonce declined to comment.

As the elder female of the two, Etta should have been encouraging of Beyonce rather than appear bitter (joke or no joke). We older ladies are to mentor, encourage and cheer on the young folks so they will do better in life.

Other news sources reported more of what she said, saying she(Beyonce) sang for that guy with the big ears, you know YOUR president. That’s right, he’s YOUR president, not my president, she said. She later went on to say it was a joke-I know I for one lmao listening to the audio clip of her giving it her all! Why doesn’t WKRG play the whole audio, instead of taking just one little piece?

She does not have any rights to this song, the article clearly states who had written the song it was not her music, she just did not like someone else singing it and Beyonce just blew everyone away with that beautiful voice of hers.

Bitter old bat just jealous they didn’t ask her. She has no rights to the song so permission was not neccesary.

Permission should have been granted. Isn’t this the custom for most singers, to have the rights to their own music?

Actually Etta has no “ownership” of song so to speak therefore no permission is necessary, it’s just a matter of her having an attitude,just something to gripe about.
