Digital Deadline Approaching

CYBERSPACE (AP) - So, did you sign up for a coupon for a special
converter box so you can see digital TV without buying a new set?
If so, you might want to circle the date February 17th on your
calendar. That's when the Department of Commerce will begin
distributing the more than 4.4 million coupons that have been
requested so far. That same day, three major retailers (Best Buy,
Radio Shack and Wal-Mart) are expected to start selling the
converters. Full-power TV stations will stop broadcasting analog
signals a year from now. Anyone who doesn't own a digital
television set and still gets their programming over-the-air will
need to buy a box. Viewers who have satellite or cable service
won't need one.

A lot of people are going to have to go to satellite or cable if available in their area.Any station below a certain signal level that you presently recieve will not even be viewable on the digital tvs and converter boxes,that means you are going to have to pay to watch commericals now.I have tried it on my digital tv and an over the air digital hdtv converter box,i lose over half of my now viewable channels.So if your satellite view is blocked by trees or what ever and cable hasn’t made to your area,or you can’t afford either one,get ready for a lot less of choices in tv viewing.
