Kwame Kilpatrick's former chief of staff appear to show she had a
long-term romantic relationship with the married mayor.
The messages from Christine Beatty's city-issued pager appear in
an 18-page document released on the orders of a Michigan judge in
response to a lawsuit brought by two Detroit newspapers.
Excerpts of the messages show Kilpatrick and Beatty engaging in
graphic sex talk. They also appear to show Kilpatrick was involved
in the decision to fire a former police officer who sued the city.
A perjury investigation was launched after the Detroit Free
Press published text messages in January. Kilpatrick and Beatty are
charged with lying under oath about their relationship. Both have
denied wrongdoing.
Kilpatrick questions the authenticity of the messages and
dismisses them as a "regurgitation of old news."
