had sex with a female inmate in a bathroom, and has resigned
following his arrest.
The sheriff's office in this central Florida county says
40-year-old Donald Kurns Jr. admitted Friday to having sexual
intercourse with the inmate but said it was consensual.
However, the inmate told authorities she did not want to have
sex with Kurns but was afraid she would lose her "trusty" status.
Because of good behavior, the inmate was allowed to clean bathrooms
at the jail.
Kurns is charged with sexual battery - because he was in a
position of authority over the inmate - as well as sexual
misconduct. Bond for the 15-year veteran has not been set.
The inmate has been transferred to a facility in a neighboring
county.
