NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A federal appeals court panel has ruled
in favor of a Tennessee high school that banned students from
wearing clothing with the Confederate battle flag after several
racial incidents.
Students Derek Barr, Chris White and Roger Craig White claimed
in a lawsuit that their free speech rights were violated by the
2005 ban on the Confederate symbol at William Blount High School in
Maryville.
School officials said their ban came after racial tension that
included a fight, a civil rights complaint and graffiti of a
Confederate flag, a racial slur and a noose.
In its opinion filed Wednesday in Cincinnati, the 6th U.S.
Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that school officials had a right to
ban the flag because they could "reasonably forecast" that it
would disrupt education.

Exactly, Determined, I agree completely with your last statement.  Now, here’s the character test, YOU can make a difference by finding out yourself.

Incidentally, I’m not one of those oh-so-common childish forum ‘morons’ that will say “nana-nana-boo-boo, I won!” because you quit posting.  I’m actually quite disappointed unless you will leave here open minded enough to do your own fact-finding and be intellectually honest with yourself re: it’s meaning.

God Bless & Have a ‘Dixie Day’

I’ve spent way too much time on this subject and I’m not going to continue to waste precious time or energy on this post. Now, CSAVirginia, you may see this as a victory.  So be it! If it makes you sleep better at night knowing that you have won a DISCUSSION about the CSA flag, then more power to you.  This discussion really did not justify 6 pages worth of comments.  My advice is…if you want to provide a history lesson about the CSA flag then become a history teacher. No matter what you say on here, it’s not going to change people’s minds until they take enough interest to find out the truth about this flag for themselves.  Have a Good Day All!

Hey Determined, I HAVE the evidence, and (as Doc Holliday said in Tombstone) “I’m your Huckleberry”, I have truth on my side, I know what I’m talking about, and I can carry this out as far as you like.  I fear no one in a discussion of this topic.  The Starts & Stripes is only irrelevant here because you KNOW it PROVES conclusively that you and others who see the flags as you do are guilty of unfairly judging the merits of the CSA banners.  I posed the end question to make you think . . . Why DID those men fight if not for slavery???  Of course that may cause you to go looking for facts that you wouldn’t WANT to know, becuase then that would blow yur whole theory out of the water.

I can accept the different meanings for different people position…No Problem…But to sluff off the flag comparison as not being relavant to the topic is not being open-minded at all. Its exactly the basis and a prime-example in the defense of the CSA Flags meanings and misuses among those people that are somewhere on the social scale near that of bacteria…These same people have demonstrated with the stars and stripes just as they have with the CSA Flag and that is fact..How can one not see this and realize the difference in how the flags are perceived?? I certainly am not trying to say the CSA fLAG was never used by these hate groups…we all know they use it…but they also use it hand in hand with the Stars and Stripes and if someone fails to realize that…then that falls back on you and your inability to accept truth and fact when its easier to play follow the leader and hate something without knowing the history surrounding it. What good for one is good for the other.

Sincere apology on my tone there, I thought you were being salty.

...but you know that’s not a viable option for us, half of the idots who did that racist stuff are probably dead now.  I guess the bottom line is that you are willing to accept the flag as redefined forever in the 50’s and 60’s by a few choice morons, and I will never be willing to accept that, because: #1 the facts belie the myth that the CSA fought to do anything other than maintain the integrity of Constitutional government #2 people absolutely REFUSE to judge other flags guilty of WORSE offenses against black folks by the same measuring stick.  I.E.  Wearing your ‘traditional’ African colors proudly when there’s STILL slavery the Sudan for goodness sake!  How can someone be PROUD to be from Africa and wear the ‘colors’ in good conscience, but yet condemn the flag of my ancestors while slavery is still existing on the continent they are PROUD to be from.  There are more than enough examples to prove duplicity!

Depending on your race, I suppose.

No one said that we didn’t care, but the topic of discussion is about the CSA flag.  Nothing else.  If you can not find enough supporting evidence to justify your defense of this flag then you should not bring in another totally irrelevant topic (i.e. the Stars & Stripes).  And the question that you pose, is not a very intelligent one. There’s no way I can speak intelligently about the minds of people back in those days.  People can choose to fight for whatever causes they want too.  If you are trying to get me to say that I believe the CSA flag is a symbol of something good, then you will not hear that from me.  This flag has both positive and negative meanings, and those meanings are determined by the individual.

Since my ancestor wrote the most famous song about the Stars and Stripes, I feel somewhat vindicated. Sticks and stones… My problem is with the GROUPS who have used it with in your face patriotism acting as if their god is approving of the hatred. “Jesus loves me and shares my hate” bumper sticker folks is how I look at them.

I was being serious. If Tandy corp sues over Auto Shack in order to maintain the SHACK link to its ideals, you proud Southerners might think about doing the same thing in order to protect the honor of the Confederate Flag. Like I said, go after the groups..

Enough trying to set you straight.. Good luck with all that.

Oh, gosh, that was SO witty (I’ll laugh later) . . . but since you brought up suing, why don’t you meet me at the courthouse and then you can start your suit against the people who have misused the Stars and Stripes in the SAME manner; oh, I forgot, y’all conveniently DON’T CARE that hate groups have used it at well.  Oh, well Cest La Vie!

CSA, I am thinking you should sue all the folks who use the Confederate Battle flag as a symbol of hatred and racism. They have ruined your ancestor’s good name.
