NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A biographer for country music superstar
Eddy Arnold says the singer has died at the age of 89.
Belmont University Professor Don Cusic says Arnold died at a
care facility near Nashville Thursday morning. Arnold was just days
short of his 90th birthday.
Arnold's mellow baritone on songs like "Make the World Go
Away" - a crossover hit on the pop charts in 1965 - made him one
of the most successful country singers in history.
He became a pioneer of "The Nashville Sound," also called
"countrypolitan," a mixture of country and pop styles.
He was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1966. The
following year he was the first person to receive the entertainer
of the year award from the Country Music Association.

BamaBOb do you remember when amway was the fad? they used that song of his and replaced a way with amway. I thought it was heresy to butcher his song.

Make the world go away
Get it off my shoulder
Say the things we used to say
And make the world, make it go away
Do you remember when you loved me
Before the world took you away
Well if you do, then forgive me
And make the world, make it go away
Make the world go away

One of my favorite aunts would always tell me that my dad could do an impression of Eddy Arnold and you would think you were hearing the real thing on the radio.  Memories…..

Yes,He will be missed. He was one of the great ones.I can remember a sign hanging over one of the local stores saying"EDDY ARNOLD IS COMING TO TOWN” and one of his songs playing on a loud speaker hanging by the sign. That was high tech back then. I don’t know if he ever made it or not,we’re talking late 40s or early 50s. Some of his songs never get old.

Always liked Eddy Arnold.

You will be sadly missed.
