SACRAMENTO (AP) - California air regulators have voted unanimously for a mandate requiring auto manufacturers to include
sun-reflecting glass on all vehicles sold within the state by 2014.

The move approved Thursday by the California Air Resources Board is intended to keep cars, pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles
sold in the state cooler during hot weather, reducing the use of air-conditioning.

That is expected to improve fuel efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The auto industry complained about the expense but won an extra year to comply with the first phase of the regulation.

They also will be allowed to find other ways to cool down cars rather than meeting a tougher window standard to be phased in after
2014.

If you can’t read your licenses through them, they will be illegal in some states.I was pulled over and my tint, from the factory or the dealer, was checked a few years ago,and that was what the officer said to go by.Mine barely cleared he said, but no ticket so I kept it until I sold it.I would like to see more of these solar powered circulation fans become mandatory equipment on vehicles.I’ve tried a couple of them in the past and they seemed to work good on keeping the temperature down out of the triple digit range when parked in the sun.the more sun,the faster they ran.Solar powered air conditioning assist is not to far around the corner for cars.

better go get yourself some cheap sunglasses ,how-how-how-how.

does that mean that everybody is going to be driving blind from passing cars that are reflecting the sun?

I seriously doubt this will actually cut down on a/c USAGE!  It will make the a/c more efficient, yes, but people will just be glad the air conditioner will cool the car more quickly and keep running them on “max”.  wink
