Lawmakers had a lot of questions for oil company executives today.
They want answers to why the industry's profits are at record highs, and yet the cost of gasoline is flying high for most American consumers.
Oil is, on average, over $100 a barrel and hit $112 on Monday.
Representative Edward Markley of Massachusetts says oil companies have explaining to do.
ExxonMobil senior Vice President J. Stephen Simon says that his company has to "maintain a high profit margin to support programs even during years of less profit."

As for Shell Oil, executive John Hoffmeister says that his company will devout millions of dollars to find ways to produce more energy.

Oil executives say the United States should consider finding places in our own country to drill for petroleum. Many say it is difficult for the U.S. to ask OPEC nations to increase production when we won't do the same thing. Some executives say that the United States should find it's own oil reserves to cutback on our dependence of foreign oil from the Middle East and South America.

Why is Social Security legal? Why is Wic legal? Why are federal programs meant to financially help citizens legal? Why are Stimulus packages legal? Do you know why people hated Herbert Hoover? B/c during the Great Depression he was asked by citizens and state institutions to help with the economic affairs of America’s and yet he refused. Why? B/c the constitution doesnt state that the Federal Gov’t may help with financial crisis. It clearly states that this must be left up to “Religious Establishments and State Gov’ts”. He was bound by our constitution. What a great American. ANd to think, today, NO ONE in the Legal, Executive, systems is bound by anything relating to our constitution. Utterly ridiculous. I hope our next president is his/her own person. I hope we can stay out of other country’s affairs. I hope we can build our economy back up, respect our constitution, and learn to live on as the greatest empire this world has ever seen. With Christ as our foundation, lets move on!

And one last thing. Our constitution was set up to uphold our first 10 amendment rights. These rights being permanent and meant to NEVER be taken away. Yet all one has to do to limit these freedoms to any citizen is read the Patriot Act and then utilize it. The country’s gov’t was set up on a systems of checks and balances between the Judicial System, the Executive System, and the Legislature. And we were named the “United STATES of America” for a reason. Why u may ask did we do these two things? To keep the Federal Gov’t from getting to centralized and too big to control every aspect of a citizens life. And yet this is exactly what has happened. “Seperation of Church and State” is used in a Public School systems by-laws. Why? A school system should have NOTHING to do with our Constitution. Why? B/C the Const. was written in respect to the Fed. Gov’t, not the state gov’ts. So why is are Public schools and the Fed. Gov’t connected? Why are fed. subsidizes legal? Why is Medicare legal?

Everything is so twisted and up-side down that from across foreign waters, this country must look like a Picasso painting. Our constitution means nothing. And yet the same constitution is used to twist meanings in order to support views held by ridiculous conservatists and even more ridiculous liberalists. I am so tired of hearing “seperation of church and state”. That phrase is NO WHERE in the constitution. It was in a letter written from Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptist Association. People have completely twisted this and combined the phrase with one of the phrases in the First Amendment which states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion”. Thats it. THATS ALL IT SAYS!!! Congress shall not make a law. It doesnt say that the Federal Gov’t, or any other public institution shall not respect an establishment of religion, or endorse one. And yet 99 out of 100 Americans don’t even realize this fact. This country is going down hill. And its b/c of us

MeAmerican. I completely disagree with that argument that Gas costs less than this or that. It is absurd to point out that fact when no one buys those things on a regular basis at 15 gallons at a time. If you buy cigarettes, you dont buy 15 packs at a time, you dont get 15 haircuts a week, you dont buy 15 cups of coffee every few days. The fact that the price of oil goes up due to shots being fired in middle-eastern waters, or the fact that the seasons change, or any other ridiculous reason for stocks to drop, then prices go up is absurd. This country is going to fall as all great empires do. And the sad thing is, not one person in this country has the testicular fortitude to stand up as our fore-fathers did against the tyranny that is displayed by gov’t officials, big businesses, and pretty much every branch of the legal system in this country. The fact that I cant even pray in a public environment is absurd. They want freedom of every religion, but not for Christianity.Its all wrong.

anyone who thinks the war on terrorism is about oil is crazy they better go back and review their 9/11 tapes most major oil companies donate to democrats george soros own enron we only import 40% of oil from middle east wouldnt have to do that but thanks to democrats its cheaper to import than to drill here and dont worry about those hair cuts with the way oil is climbing thanks to wallstreet speculators we will all be doing our own hair cuts how long after we invaded iraq did libya call it quits did the new prime minister of england not stand on the whitehouse lawn last week and say the world owes bush a debt of gratitude for standing up to terrorist did france not get rid of the anti bush leader and elect a probush leader who allowed the big oil companies to merge bill clinton and the list goes on

3rd a hair cut cost more than a gallon of gas.

Actually the economy has been splendid under Bush. It’s the democratic controlled house and congress tha has ruined our ways of life.

P.S. the war isn’t about oil you silly liberal it’s about stopping terrorists.

It’s absurd that one of the worlds largest oil reserves is in U.S held territories and the dems won’t let us get it.

I guess no one sees the connection between our $9,331,000,000,000 (9.3 trillion) national debt, our rapidly collapsing dollar (because of that whopping national debt), the war (for oil), the anyoyance that war causes to people who actually OWN the oil, the stupidity of our “president” in starting that war, and driving up that national debt as a result of borrowing all that $$$ to finance the war, which has resulted in our collapsing dollar, our ticked off global nieghbors, and the high price of fuel.

well most people dont buy at least ten haircuts at one time or 10 dozen donughts at a time or starbucks coffee and guess what you left one out a gallon of milk and eggs are not far behind now you want to see capitalism let the gas stations start charging 5.00 a gallon for regular to make a profit it cost to run one
