Internet Kids New study shows kids from 2-11 spending more time online.

NEW YORK (AP) - The number of young kids online is growing faster than their parents and older siblings. A new study from Nielsen Online finds that nearly 16 million U.S. children ages 2 to 11 were online in May. They made up about 9.5 percent of Internet users.

In the past five years, Nielsen says, the number of kids online has grown by 18 percent, compared with just a 10 percent growth among all Internet users. And this growth comes as the total number of U.S. kids under 14 is declining.

Nielsen says boys spent 7 percent more time online than girls, but girls viewed 9 percent more Web pages than boys did in May 2009.

I really don’t know any children that are two yrs. of age that can type or spell well enough to “surf the net"and I believe “Nielsen” should take their survey over.I believe that part of their statement is ridiculous.

My 2 year old does the same. When I am online trying to do my school work she sneaks up behind me then pounds on the keyboard deleting what work I had done. So now I have to save it every 5 minutes. Sometimes I will let her sit in my lap and watch Veggie Tales on YouTube. Like you Mike I do not see how a 2 year old has the mind capacity to work the internet. Sure maybe they start hitting buttons on the keyboard and pull pages up or open tabs without realizing what they are doing. However, I find it impossible that a 2 year old could really get on the computer and surf the web and chat it up. LOL.

Haha, my nearly 2 yr. old does the same thing sometimes he will pretend he is on it. I have a 7 yr. old that is still not allowed on it unless I let him play cartoon network, it’s just not safe anymore!

Who lets a 2 year old on a computer? More than that, what kind of 2 year old wants/can use a computer? My daughter is nearly 2 and the only thing she can do to a computer is mash the keyboard and hit the power button when daddy is on it…
