DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit City Council is asking embattled Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to resign.
The group approved a resolution Tuesday afternoon on a 7-1 vote
asking Kilpatrick to step down. The resolution can't force him to
leave, and is similar to a "no-confidence" vote.
Mayoral Chief of Staff Kandia Milton says Kilpatrick has no
intention to quit.
Kilpatrick's troubles have compounded in recent weeks. The
county prosecutor is investigating whether Kilpatrick and his
former chief of staff lied under oath about having an affair. He
also has been criticized for using a racially charged word during a
recent speech.
