RED BAY, Ala. (AP) - Six people suffered scrapes and bruises
when the front porch of a rural church in northwest Alabama
collapsed Sunday morning.
The accident happened at the Piney Grove Missionary Baptist
Church, located south of Red Bay. Franklin County Sheriff Larry
Plott said six people fell about 15 feet.
Church officials said the injured were taken to hospitals in Red
Bay and Sheffield and were treated and released.
Reverend Johnny Smith, the church's pastor, credited rescue and
fire personnel for their quick response to the scene. He said he
expects insurance companies to determined what caused the porch to
cave-in.
