Police in Colorado Springs, Colorado have released 9-1-1 calls from the day a gunman opened fire inside a church.The shooting at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs happened last month. Two teenage girls were killed by Matthew Murray when he opened fire on them in the church parking lot. Sisters Stephanie and Rachel Works were killed, their father was wounded.
Moments later Murray entered the church, but an armed security person intercepted him and shot him. Murray then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.
The 9-1-1 calls came from people at the church and church officials. One person called saying someone was "shooting at us." There was even a church official who called 9-1-1 to say "they had shot him."
Nobody inside the church was hurt that day and a security officer named Jeanne Assam is credited with saving lives that day. She fired the shots that stopped Murray.
SOT Dispatch: "Colorado Springs 911."
Caller: "There's a shooting at New Life. Near our church."
Dispatch: "I am sorry. What is it?"
Caller: "It's a shooting. There's someone shooting at us."
SOT Caller: "I am driving, as fast as I can right now."
SOT Caller: "We have two people down. There are two, three people shot. There are three people shot with my family. We can't move."
Caller: "They are shooting inside the tent."
Dispatch: "They are inside the tent?"
Caller: "Inside the tent."
SOT Caller: "I just saw shots being fired. There was a shooter."
Dispatch: "OK, where in the church are you?"
Caller: "I am behind the stage."
SOT Dispatch: "Did you see who did the shooting?"
Caller: "He's dead. We shot him."
Dispatch: "Who shot him?"
Caller: "One of our security."
