GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (AP) - A police detective says three young
children found dead in their apartment on New York's Long Island
may have been drowned and one youngster's throat was cut.
Detective Lt. Michael Fleming also says Monday that all three
children showed signs of possible poisoning.
Authorities say the children's mother called police claiming she
killed them early Sunday in the Long Island town of New Cassel.
A medical examiner is conducting autopsies to determine the
official cause of death for the children, ages 6, 5 and 1.
The mother is identified as Leatrice Brewer. She is awaiting
arraignment in a hospital where she was taken for evaluation and
observation.
