ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say an Orange County deputy
used a Taser on an 11-year-old girl after the elementary school
student punched the officer.
According to arrest reports, the girl is facing charges of
battery on a law-enforcement officer, disrupting a school function
and resisting with violence.
The sheriff's office says the deputy was taken to a hospital
with a bruised nasal cavity.

One thing is for certain...this 11 year old will think twice before she punches a law enforcement officer in the face again.

I think some cops have become a little taser happy! Cops are taught when and when not to pull out their guns and blow someone away. They should be given the same training for the use of tasers. It has been shown more than once that these things can be deadly weapons under certain circumstances.

If the kid’s heart stopped after being zapped, what would we be talking about today?

Yes, but if this officer is going to taser a child who should have been handcuffed in the first place, who’s to say he won’t shoot a pregnant woman?

Kids today are going to push every limit whether at home or school. I think the officer had every right to defend himself.

To protect and serve. Laugh now but realize one thing.
The laugh is on you when they have to come to the aid of you or your loved ones.
This is a serious ordeal and not to be taken lightly.
No matter how young or old they are, everyone is a potential high risk of injury to themselves and those around them.
Without all the facts we will never know if the child had a mental condition, drugs or whatever. Either way, kids are now growing up killing other individuals while we set back laugh, complain and point the blame on someone else.
Go ahead laugh. This is America. Tha Land where parents are unable to discipline their children any more.

if this officer is afraid of an 11 year old little girl he needs to find a new profession. what is he going to do when a 6’5 man resists arrest?

I don’t know how it is in Orange Co but deputies here that carry a taser are not allowed to carry pepper spray. It will cause some kind of reaction if both are used.

It is really sad when a cop can’t defend himself against a child!! I am a teacher who works with kids everyday. I could have had this child under control in no time!! how stupid!!!

I can’t believe he didn’t just handcuff the little brat. A taser on a young child is just brutal, and not proper response to a punch that only “bruised the nasal cavity.” I think she has every right to file an “excessive force” complaint and win.

11 year old resisting arrest? she got what she deserved. there is a difference between being a public servant and a public punching bag. charge her and make the charges stick. let her learn early.
