WHITE HOUSE (AP) - Washington motorists are in for varying
degrees of gridlock today. The pope is in town and so is British
Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Brown meets with President Bush this afternoon. And he'll also
be meeting, in effect, with Bush's successor. Brown has
back-to-back meetings at the British Embassy this morning with each
of the three remaining major candidates: Democratic rivals Hillary
Clinton and Barack Obama, and John McCain, who's locked up the
Republican nomination.
Brown is officially neutral in the U.S. election but has praised
all three candidates.
The prime minister and Bush have much to talk about, chiefly
Iraq. Brown has put plans for pulling out more British troops on
hold because of instability in the in the south, where his
country's troops are stationed.
