NEW YORK (AP) - Little people are calling on the Federal Communications Commission to ban the use of the word "midget" on broadcast TV.

The group Little People of America said Sunday the word is just as offensive as racial slurs.

The request was prompted by an April episode of NBC's "Celebrity Apprentice" that the group said was demeaning.

In the episode, contestants created a detergent ad called "Jesse James and the Midgets." The contestants, including Joan Rivers, suggested bathing little people in the detergent and hanging them to dry.

Calls to the FCC and "Celebrity Apprentice" host Donald Trump were not immediately answered Sunday. NBC Universal representatives didn't immediately respond to e-mail messages, and the telephone rang unanswered at their Los Angeles office.

Yeah, when asked to fill in RACE I always put “Human” because that is my race….ethnicity (which it never asks for) is a whole other story!

barefootangel you are so right!

The point to Me is, if I don’t want someone to use a word around me, I ask them politely not to use it. There is no reason to keep banning words. It’s sort of like when I have to fill out forms and they ask if I am red, yellow, black, white, green or other. I put other and write in AMERICAN because it doesn’t matter my color, I should get the same treatment. If we keep banning words, our dictionary will be the size of a credit card. this is just my opinion and now I will shut up. the bfa

i agree bfa, i am tired of being called dumb, i wanna law passed . . . .

Yea, and I am tired of being called tall. I want a law past to forbid the use of the word “tall”. so says the bfa

I don’t understand what the big deal is about using offensive words. as long as you’re not threating someone who cares. anyone ever heard of freedom of speech??

so when is the word fat going to be considered offensive? because it already is to me.

I am starting to understand. Which doesn’t say much for me. the bfa

Claycity’s “I’m gonna have to study UP on this” and S-fan’s “I drove a MG little person car” has left me a little SHORT on a reply.grin

A friend of mine drove a MG little person in high school.  What a fun car.

i’m going to have to study up on this. get back to you shortly.
