DALLAS (AP) - Dallas police are suspending their use of decoycars to catch car thieves, after one of them was stolen and later
collided with another vehicle, killing an elderly woman.
Dallas police say an error message came up when they tried to
disable the vehicle known as a bait car, which is equipped with
cameras and tracking equipment. It's thought that the accident
happened before the vehicle could be disabled.
Officers can't ask for the kill switch to be activated until
they have the decoy car in sight and believe it's safe to turn off
the engine. They don't have the ability to remotely activate brakes
on the vehicles.
The man police say stole the car faces charges of felony theft
and murder in the death of the 83-year-old woman.

Exactly! They are put in areas where they are most likely to be stolen. You should hear some of the lame excuses they give when the police let them out of their trap. One time I laughed so hard I think I had tears in my eyes. Just like baiting a hook when fishing, hence bait car. It’s been a while back but I saw a picture of one of the tag frames,to hold your tag, that could be installed on new cars to allow police to kill your ignition when they thought it was safe to do so from behind your car with their transmitter. No more out running the police then.
