WASHINGTON (AP) - Pentagon officials say there were fewer Army
suicides last year than they had feared. But it was still the
highest number in almost two decades.
Two defense officials said Thursday that 108 troops committed
suicide in 2007, the most since 1990. The officials spoke on
condition of anonymity because the full report on the deaths wasn't
being released until later Thursday.
Preliminary figures released in January showed as many as 121
troops killed themselves, but a number of the deaths were still
being investigated then.
Suicides have been rising. The 108 last year followed 102 in
2006 and 85 in 2005.
The increases come despite a host of efforts to improve the
mental health of a force stressed by lengthy and repeated
deployments to Iraq.

well rabidpooh step up and serve(if you havent already). i have nothing but respect for our troops, but im with LPJ(although my spelling and grammar is WAY better), start bringing some of them home. in my opinion, we shouldve left suddam hussein in power

To make some matters worse, some people’s tours are involuntarily extended, 6, 12, or 18 months. Many are in desperate need of a break. We need more people here in our country to step up to the plate to serve (whether you believe in this war or not is bside the point) so troops can be rotated out with more frequency and given a break. War is hell.

This should tell everyone that it time to send ower boys home they cant handle it eney more it more than eneyone can handle. There are men and wemon that have not sean there families in 2 years this is not right send them home let some other country that was all for the war to help out but no , they is no country that will stelp in and take over ower jobs over there .
