YINGXIU, China (AP) - Rescuers are holding out hope they'll be
able to find still more survivors from the powerful earthquake that
struck central China five days ago.
More than 160 people were rescued Friday. Some of them had spent
more than 100 hours trapped in the ruins. One of those pulled out
alive is a German tourist who was found near the epicenter of the
massive quake.
Tens of thousands of people are believed to be buried or missing
in the disaster zone.
Relief efforts have been hampered by strong aftershocks. One
Friday knocked out more roads and communications in quake-ravaged
areas.
Chinese authorities are confronting the daunting task of feeding
and finding shelter for millions left homeless by the disaster.
The official death toll stands at more than 22,000. The
government expects the eventual death toll to surpass 50,000.
