WHITE HOUSE (AP) - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbaswill meet with President Bush today in an
effort to gain more support in peace negotiations with Israel.
Yesterday, Abbas brought his appeal to Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice. Abbas says his government is "serious" in its
attempt to forge an agreement by the end of the year. However, he
says Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank is the biggest
obstacle to peace. The Palestinian leader adds that time is running
out for an agreement.
Today's meeting comes a day after Jordan's King Abdullah
met with Bush at the White House on Mideast peace.
The talks are a prelude to President Bush's trip to the region next
month.
