GARLAND, Texas (AP) - A 6-year-old Texas girl won't get to seeHannah Montana after all.
Her essay on the death of her father in Iraq won over the judges
in a contest for the tickets. The problem is, the story isn't true.
The girl's mother confessed that the essay was a scam, saying
the military information she had provided about her daughter's
father is fake. She tells a Dallas TV station that they did
whatever they could to win the highly coveted tickets. The opening
line in the essay read: "My daddy died this year in Iraq."
The contest's sponsor, a store chain named Club Libby Lu, has
taken back its prize and awarded it to another contestant. The
chain says it wants to "revive the intended spirit of the
contest."
The prize includes a Hannah Montana makeover inside Club Libby Lu, tickets to Hannah Montana's sold-out concert in Albany, New York in January, airfare and accommodations to the show and a Hannah Montana gift bag.
Club Libby Lu is a Chicago-based store that sells clothing, accessories and games for young girls.
