A family spokesman says former first lady BarbaraBush had successful open heart surgery today.
Jim McGrath said doctors had noticed recently that Mrs. Bush's
aortic valve had started to harden. The surgery was scheduled last
week after she began to have a shortness of breath.
McGrath said Mrs. Bush was resting comfortably Wednesday night
and was already up and talking.
Houston television station KRTK reported that Mrs. Bush almost
didn't want her children to know because she didn't think it was
that big a deal.
